Before, if you possibly can. I know that runs against how a lot of homes get built, where art becomes the last thing, chosen to match a sofa. When the painting comes first, it sets a key for the whole space, and the rugs and the fabrics and the lighting get to answer to it. The work becomes the reason the room feels like yours instead of a nicely appointed showroom.

If your furnishings are already in, that is completely fine too. We simply work the other direction, reading the palette and the scale that is there and finding or making a piece that belongs in it. Either way, you are not on a clock, and you are never choosing blind.

How do designers and artists work together on placement?

Closely, and gladly. I love working with designers, and a good one makes my job easier and the result better. When a designer is placing the work, I stay in service to their vision: the scale they need, the sightline the piece has to hold, the way it reads from the entry versus up close. I can speak to exactly what a surface does in different light because I stood in front of it while it dried, and that kind of detail helps a designer specify with confidence.

If you are the collector and you have a designer, bring us together early. The three of us in one conversation, even a short one, saves a lot of guessing and almost always lands on something better than any of us would have reached alone.

Can you commission original art for a specific room or wall?

Yes, and for a significant new home it is often the loveliest route. A commission means the piece is made for your space from the start: the scale suited to that wall, the palette drawn from the light in that room, the story or the materials chosen with you rather than for you. It is a real collaboration, and I keep you close through it, so nothing about the final work is a surprise. If you already have a wall in mind, or a feeling you want a room to hold, that is exactly where a commission begins.

Commissioning is not more complicated than acquiring an existing piece. It just starts with a conversation instead of a canvas, and it ends with something that could only have been made for you.

How does buying and pricing work?

Original work is priced by inquiry, and there is a simple, honest reason for it. A one-of-a-kind painting is valued on what it actually is: its scale, its materials and where they came from, the time held inside it, and the fact that there is only ever one. When you reach out about a piece or a commission, what you receive back is a genuine conversation and a real answer, given with care, along with everything you need on materials, documentation, and how to look after the work once it is yours.

Acquiring directly from the studio also means the path between you and the work stays short. I document every piece, I deliver and place with real attention, and I am the one who tells you first when something new is on the easel.
