Commissions — Original Fine Art Paintings by Dani Abbott
Dani Abbott is a Scottsdale-area fine art painter working in acrylic and oil, accepting a limited number of private commissions each year. Her commissioned work hangs in private collections from Scottsdale to New York and the Pacific Northwest, and internationally.
Commissioning a painting should feel like the beginning of something, because it is. A piece made just for you, for a specific room, a specific story, a specific something you've been carrying. There is almost nothing I love more than this part of my work.
Every commission starts with a conversation. You tell me what you're thinking about. Maybe it's a place that's stayed with you. A person. A chapter you want to mark. It can be fully formed or barely an idea, and it doesn't need to sound polished. Some of my favorite commissions have started with a single sentence and a photograph taken twenty years ago.
From there, we figure it out together. We talk about size, palette, where the piece will live, how it needs to feel in the room. I'll ask the questions that help me understand what you actually want, and we build the vision from there. Past commissions have found homes in private collections from Scottsdale to New York to the Pacific Northwest, and internationally. Each one is built around a story that
belonged to the person who commissioned it.
What a commission includes
-
An original acrylic or oil painting, hand-painted and signed by me
-
Created with professional-grade paints on quality canvas, varnished for archival longevity
-
A certificate of authenticity
-
Care and packaging I stand behind, with shipping options available based on size and destination
-
A slow, thoughtful process built around your story
Timeline
Most commissions take between eight and fourteen weeks from the first conversation to delivery, depending on scale and complexity. Larger pieces and more layered compositions take longer, and I'll give you a realistic window up front so you know exactly what to expect.
What I don't take on
Every painter has their lane, and being clear about mine up front saves us both time. I work in my own style and subject matter, which means I don't replicate or closely reproduce another artist's work, and I don't take on traditional photo-realistic pet portraits. My work in Companion Works is symbolic and story-driven, approached through the same metaphorical realism I bring to every painting. If traditional pet portraiture is what you're looking for, I'd rather point you toward someone whose work is built for it than try to be something I'm not.
For Scottsdale and greater Phoenix collectors
I offer in-home consultations for clients in the area. We walk the room, look at the light, and talk through scale and palette in the space where the piece will actually live. It's one of the most enjoyable parts of the process, for both of us.

Commission FAQ
What does a commission include?
Every commission is an original acrylic or oil painting, hand-painted and signed by me. It's created with professional-grade paints on quality canvas, varnished for archival longevity, and includes a certificate of authenticity. Packaging and shipping are coordinated based on the size and destination of the piece.

Do you paint in oil or acrylic?
I work in both acrylic and oil on canvas. The medium for each commission is chosen based on the vision for the piece, and we'll discuss it during the initial conversation.
